Bodybuilding and Mirroring


Anything practised continuously over time becomes an automatic behaviour. Problems arise when the practice is not perfect. If it's not spot-on, you create a wavy, varied pathway to the required standard.
Even as an adult, you can still find a place for role models who have the physique and represent and support the standards you embrace and you should never outgrow your need for this type of person who can be an invaluable inspiration for you.
If you're new to bodybuilding, you have nothing to personally use as a reference to achieving a particular level. With mirroring you copy the same things in the same way as someone who has excelled at it. Choose a role model, someone you respect, admire, Arnold, Frank Zane, someone who has walked that road. Get yourself a DVD of them performing if you are able. Watch out for the subtle information. Imagine what having their body can do for you.
Absorb as much as you can then in your mind, become a director and make a movie of your role model training or performing effortlessly. Press play and watch carefully as your hero does everything perfectly from beginning to end. Watch out for any distinctions you need to note.
Observe how your role model carries him/herself. How do they move? Notice how they conduct themselves positively.
This time, play the movie again, including yourself beside or behind your role model, imitating their actions, breathing, voice, mimic everything exactly.
Now climb in and become your hero, synchronise fully. Modify everything until the animation is exactly as you wish. See through their eyes, hear through their ears, take on the feeling of how empowered s/he is.
Feel what it's like to be your role model. Having that body. Build up the feelings, sounds, sights. See all around you how other people respond.
How different does your future look. How much more optimism do you have as a result of owning this body? Live this future, make it real for yourself.
Step out and away and imagine in front of you another you who now exhibit's the assurance, energy and the body you have made your own. Make any modifications.
If your role model has written a book, or articles, has photos, get a copy to study. Do research. Find out what that person did to find success. Understand how they think.
Continue to rehearse until you are certain you can be like that role model. Even if you feel like your making it up, your teaching your brain new behaviour, so pretend until it becomes natural.
Its a valid thought that mirroring can oversimplify the topic of achieving success as it does not take into consideration natural talent. An example would be your physical condition and attributes. Some people are genetically gifted, many are not. You may never have the potential to become a world champion. If you were to examine the world champions, you would find patterns in their diets, lifestyles, training and mindset. Duplicating these patterns is not a guarantee you will duplicate their professional level, but it will guarantee you will become as good a bodybuilder or figure competitor as you can be, given your genetic potential.
Also imagine sometimes other factors that may hinder you so you can bring your emotions into it. Do not only visualise the best-case scenarios, be prepared with a Plan B and a Plan C. Don't imagine failing, but mentally plan how you will respond to unpleasant or difficult situations. They happen sooner or later when things don't go exactly as you hoped. You can still be proud of putting 100% effort in.
When mirroring or modelling a world great, you will never step into his or her footsteps I'm sorry to say. But what you will do is leave your own tracks. Anything is possible and they will be your own tracks. Pretend you're an exceptional bodybuilder, act as if it were true and soon your mind forgets to pretend.
